Jett started school this year. He is in the 3 year old program here and it is hard to believe he is big enough to get dropped off at school each day with the other kids. It blows me away that I no longer have a baby or even a toddler but a little boy. The time went by so fast from bringing him home to packing his backpack. However, I have been really excited for this day because he loves to play with kids and wants to play on the playground, draw, paint things, sing songs, and he loves to talk about new things. School is going to be right up Jett's alley. I am also looking forward to a routine in my household, the summer gave us too much freedom and I started feeling like a gypsy towards the end. It is a good feeling to have a purpose each day and a plan.
His first day was also my first day back so it was good and bad. I did not have time to sit and wonder and worry about him but at the same time I couldn't pick him up after his big day and he has to be dropped off early. He even has to ride the bus! Picturing such a small guy getting on such a big bus made me so anxious. But the big morning went as well as could be. I loved getting him ready with his big boy clothes and he loved getting to carry his backpack. I had to take pictures before he left and he was Mr. Personality as usual. He left the house with a little bounce in his step. When we pulled up he immediately saw the playground and was pumped that he got to play on new toys this year. He asked if he got to play on both playgrounds and I told him to ask his new teacher. He then looked at the bus, 'That my bus mom?' I told him it was and he didn't have the chance to respond because he had already been distracted by the other kids going in. He walked up to the building a little dazed and a little timid. When we got inside he grabbed my hand and kept looking around at all the new sights. The teacher met us and took us to the area where the cubbies were. He had a little trouble letting his backpack stay in his cubby, he told me it was his backpack and spiderman blanket. It took a little talking but we convinced him that this was his cubby and this is where he leaves his stuff until he needs it. When we went in the room he didn't say anything and simply held my leg with a grip that let me know he was nervous/scared. We walked around the room searching for distractions for me to leave. When the time came and I had to go I knelt down to get a hug and kiss and right when I pulled him into my arms my guard fell and I felt my chin start to quiver. I couldn't let him see me cry because I didn't want him to get scared so I fought back the tears and told him I would be there to pick him up when he gets off the bus. At this piont I was going to break and had to get out before he saw me. I stood up and walked out assuring him I would see him shortly and he was gonig to get to play and have fun. He called after me and I wanted so bad to turn around and hug him once more but being a Pre-K teacher in the past I know that the longer you stay the harder it is, and I had to get out of there so I didn't look like a crying crazy lady. As I headed out the door I couldn't stop the tears and I didn't look around to see people thinking I was crazy, but right then I was reassured at the sound of sniffles coming from behind me of another mom who I am sure had the same morning as me.
